Riverview Hospital Teams with Misys to quickly build clinical information system as backbone for enterprise-wide data sharing

Strong Partnership, Clearly Allocated Resources and Predetermined Success Criteria were Key Elements in Faster than Average Multi-Million Dollar Implementation

RALEIGH, N.C.  (December 7, 2006) - Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare IT, today announced that Riverview Hospital has successfully implemented Misys CPRTM, a market-leading computer-based patient record system. The first phase of the multi-million dollar system implementation was complete in less than a year, faster than industry standards nearing 18 months, a credit to a strong partnership between Misys and the hospital. Misys CPR will provide Riverview caregivers access to patients' health records, improving clinical efficiency and quality of care by enabling faster, more informed decisions. Beyond implementing Misys CPR, caregivers will work with Misys to begin sharing information with specialty departments by utilizing Misys Pharmacy IMM.

"While our executives and physicians expected that an implementation of this significance would require an enormous amount of resources, Misys clearly outlined those resources to be sure that all caregivers and staff would be adequately prepared," said Randy Cox, CIO of Riverview Hospital. "We were very pleased to see Misys work with us to overcome each challenge along the way and are glad to have formed a strong partnership as we move to connect additional hospital departments, optimizing our use of healthcare information technology."
Misys prepared Riverview by explaining all of the resources, both in staffing and effort, required for making the process a success. As a result, Riverview physicians are using Misys CPR throughout the hospital and have incorporated computerized physician order entry (CPOE) within the emergency department to simplify the process of placing orders, tracking medication administration and improving clinical and business reporting capabilities.
"Since Riverview was making a large investment to upgrade its clinical information system, executives wanted to ensure that the software would be fully utilized by physicians and garner a positive ROI," said Richard Atkin, president of Misys Healthcare Systems' Hospital System business unit. "Misys worked closely with Riverview, from sale to utilization, to be sure that its success criteria were met. Our partnership will continue as caregivers expand technology use into each specialty department with additional Misys solutions."
Misys and Riverview Hospital's partnership began in September 2005 when the hospital purchased Misys CPR as part of a multi-million dollar contract integrating with Misys Pharmacy IMM. During contract negotiations, Riverview identified success criteria, related to workflow and patient care quality measures, to track the value of the software.
Misys CPR is one of several products within the Misys Optimum™ family, a line of products designed to achieve interoperability through the sharing of patient information across organizations, healthcare settings and technical solutions. Using Misys CPR or other Misys Optimum solutions, physicians and staff work in a connected healthcare environment, leading to improved efficiency and patient care.
