Misys Healthcare Systems Drives Adoption of Healthcare Information Technology by Connecting Communities

Dr. Michael Fleming to Launch the Misys Center for Community Health LeadershipTM

RALEIGH, N.C. - June 6, 2006 - Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare IT, today announced the launch of its innovative Center for Community Health Leadership. The Center will work locally to create communities for the advancement of healthcare IT through electronic health record (EHR) adoption improving patient care and operational efficiency. Misys believes that EHR adoption is the first step in creating a truly interconnected healthcare community.

Addressing the growing need for local leadership in the development of healthcare IT connectivity and EHR adoption, the Misys Center for Community Health Leadership will build bridges between regional healthcare organizations including hospitals, physician offices and home care agencies. The Center's goal is to drive the advancement of an interoperable healthcare system through shared knowledge and best practices in healthcare IT in order to reduce unsustainable healthcare costs and improve the quality of care.
To demonstrate its commitment, Misys Healthcare Systems will donate up to $10 million in healthcare IT solutions to communities across the country. Intel Corporation and Dell Inc. are working with Misys and will act as trusted experts to provide technical expertise in connecting people and information for new models of care. The goal is to effect broad scale changes locally, by focusing on the sharing of knowledge, experience and technology. Along with its donation of IT solutions, the Misys Center will work closely with communities across the country to identify leaders and develop local advisory groups. The teams of community leaders will set milestones for the local adoption of EHR, while driving the dialogue around the critical issues facing the healthcare industry.
Dr. Michael Fleming, founding director of the Antidote Education Company and founding chair of FamMedPAC, is launching the Misys Center for Community Health Leadership. Dr. Fleming brings decades of activism and experience to the Misys Center.
"The time is now for communities to launch processes to adopt interoperable healthcare IT solutions that meet shared patient information goals," said Dr. Michael Fleming. "As a former president of AAFP and a practicing physician, I know that healthcare IT increases patient safety and delivers enormous savings across the healthcare continuum. We need to drive the dialogue between physicians, hospitals and home care organizations in order to reach our goals around quality measures and patient care. By establishing this Center, Misys will bring community leaders together to guide the discussion and forge ties between area leaders and healthcare agencies to advance community connectivity via technology and electronic health records."
"We see an escalating need at the community level for strong leadership in transforming community healthcare IT connectivity, community by community," said Tom Skelton, CEO of Misys Healthcare Systems. "The Misys Center for Community Health Leadership is spearheading collaboration at the local level around the adoption of electronic health records by identifying local leaders and leveraging their knowledge toward the achievement of a common goal. Our goal is to facilitate EHR adoption through shared knowledge, expertise and technology in order to assist caregivers and their communities in providing higher quality healthcare and lowering burgeoning healthcare costs."
Dr. Fleming will work closely with Misys plc Board Member John G. King, principal of John G. King Associates and former chair of the American Hospital Association, and Misys Healthcare Systems to set criteria and membership roles for the Center's advisory teams.
Dr. Fleming will be available at the HIMSS Summit on June 7 and 8 to discuss the Center's mission and goals (Misys Booth #105). For additional information, please visit www.misyscenter.com.
